About Me

My name is Dillon Bender, and I was born and raised in Iowa, United States. My journey into Information Technology began in 2019 when I built my first gaming computer. Initially, I didn’t realize the depth of what I was getting into, but I quickly found myself engrossed in researching every component to ensure compatibility. After carefully selecting and assembling each part, I discovered a profound passion for technology, which drove me to learn more.

In 2022, I enrolled at the University of Phoenix to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, along with an Advanced Software Development certificate. I plan to begin my Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity in 2025.

In 2024, I met Raesen Matutu, the founder of Bantu Academy, and we started working together. Through him, I learned about the Democratic Republic of Congo and his desire for early access to technology education. This inspired me deeply. With my passion for learning and technical skills, I felt compelled to help realize Raesen’s vision of creating a safe space where the youth of the Democratic Republic of Congo could learn about technology.

I have extensive experience in software development, with Python being one of my primary languages. I frequently use it for fun automation projects and machine learning experiments. Recently, I developed an inventory management system with a graphical user interface (GUI) in Python, leveraging a cloud-based database service. This system supports real-time updates, enables global collaboration, and includes an admin portal for managing user accounts, password resets, and tracking changes.

In addition to Python, I have experience with JavaScript. I’ve been part of development teams working with React.js to create custom customer relationship management (CRM) platforms. One of my key projects involved automating processes for a pharmacy company by migrating workflows from Microsoft Power Automate to AWS, streamlining prescription refill requests.

Beyond software development, I’ve worked on various projects with Raspberry Pi, including setting up DNS sinkholes to block ads. My home lab serves as a playground where I explore and practice networking, cybersecurity, and IT skills. I configure VLANs, set up virtual machines with different Linux distributions, and test security measures to deepen my understanding of these technologies.

Looking ahead, I hope to use my diverse technical experience to guide and mentor students at Bantu Academy on their technology journey
